About:

Linux is a completely free, 'open source' operating system that can run
on a wide variety of computer hardware. It can act as a web-, file-,
print- or game-server, run in a 'cluster' of computers to do 3D rendering
or other intense math, or sit under your TV and record your favorite shows
for later viewing. Many people use it as an inexpensive, stable,
virus- and spyware-free alternative to commercial software, such as
Microsoft Windows. It can be installed over, or alongside, Windows or
  Mac OS X.

Members of the community are invited to bring their computers and laptops
to this informal workshop, and volunteers from LUGOD will help you install
  and configure Linux, for FREE!

For details, and to RSVP:

If you wish to bring in your PC, you must RSVP beforehand to reserve a
space. The RSVP form, and lots of useful information about Linux and
Installfests, and how to prepare for the event, are accessible on the
  web at:

Presentation:

Silent no more: engaging with with non-geeks through Free & Open Source video

  Presented by:
    Christian Einfeldt, Digital Tipping Point

Did you know that it is very easy to make videos with with
Linux? Kdenlive (KDE Non-Linear Video Editor) is a robust, user-friendly
video editing software that will allow you to make decent video shorts
  with a minimum of effort.

Christian Einfeldt will be demonstrating the basics of KDEnlive, and
will talk about why it is important to use Free Software non-linear
video editors like KDEnlive to make videos that are fun for non-geeks
to watch. Einfeldt uses KDEnlive to composite video for the Digital
Tipping Point project, which is a library of interviews with FOSS
users and developers from around the world.

  About the Speaker:
Christian Einfeldt is a simple end user and attorney in San
Francisco who has been using Linux as his primary platform since
early 2001 in his law practice. Einfeldt has traveled to 6 nations
and 3 continents to shoot stock footage interviews for the Digital
Tipping Point project, a documentary movie about how Free Software
is changing global culture. Einfeldt is producing the movie as an
"open source" project in that the "code" (the footage) is available
in forkable digital bits on the Internet Archive's Digital Tipping
    Point Video Collection.
