Tuesday
June 7, 2005

Davis, California 95616
The topic will be:
Blogging & Journaling
presented by: Brad Whitaker, LiveJournal & Frank Precissi, DeadJournal
A weblog ("blog") is a web-based publishing tool, most often used
for personal journals or diaries, but which have also been used by
arms of political campaigns, media programs and corporations.
Blogs can be the writing of one occasional author, or the collaboration
of a large community of writers. Many logs enable visitors to leave
public comments, which can lead to a community of readers centered
around the blog, while others are non-interactive.
LiveJournal.com is a simple-to-use (but extremely powerful and
customizable) blogging tool built on open source software.
DeadJournal.com presents itself as a darker alternative to the
world of LiveJournal.
Brad Whitaker of LiveJournal and Frank Precissi of DeadJournal will
present a technical overview of blogging and journaling, and then
discuss the in-house open source software that LiveJournal developed
to meet their growth needs. They'll also discuss how the LiveJournal
product can be used in other enviornments (e.g., corporations, or
sites such as DeadJournal).
