The Linux Users' Group of Davis (LUGOD), will be holding a meeting on:

  Monday
  June 21, 2004
  6:30pm - 9:00pm

The meeting will be held at our regular location:

  Davis Public Library
  315 East 14th Street
  Davis, CA 95616

The topic will be:

  Shell Basics
  presented by: Mike Simons

[Steve Wormley will be out of town, and unavailable to do the
  previously-scheduled HDTV presentation]

A Unix shell, also called 'the command line,' provides the traditional
user interface for the Unix operating system. Users direct the
operation of the computer by entering command input as text for a
shell to execute. Unix shells provide both an interactive interface,
and a means for executing pre-written 'scripts.'

The most popular shell under Linux is 'bash' ("Bourne Again Shell"),
a feature-rich shell compatible with the de facto standard shell,
the Bourne shell. Mike will discuss the basics of shell programming.
