Zultys' "ZIP 4x4" Linux-based Internet Phone
presented by: Patrick Ferriter, Director of Product Marketing,
Zultys Technologies
The Zultys 'ZIP 4x4' is a Linux-based IP phone compatible with any
IP telephony system that uses the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
standard. It supports voice encryption, five-way conferencing, and has
a built-in 4-port Ethernet switch.
Zultys' MX1200 Enterprise Media Exchange, which combines the functions
of an Internet gateway, PBX, and supports video calls, is also based on
Linux.
Zultys chose Linux after becoming annoyed with problems they had with
vendors of 'traditional' real-time operating systems. Linux has allowed
them to port large applications into the product, which would have been
impossible with other OSes. They were able to rapidly develop without
using specialized software debugging tools and emulate their applications
on a standard PC. Their field sales force are able to use simulators
running on laptops to demonstrate the product.
Patrick has over 6 years experience in the communications industry.
He holds a BSEE degree from Purdue University. Prior to joining Zultys,
Patrick achieved a detailed understanding of the technical protocols in
voice and data communications during his tenure with Lockheed Martin,
McDonnell Douglas, Coppercom, and Zarak. Having become an expert in the
areas of technical and field support, testing, and product management,
Patrick helps drive the market requirements from concept through to
manufacturing.
